Resignation

Start from the day after tomorrow, I am officialy unemployed. Unemployed by my preferation. About 18 months nice experience. Everything sometime run so fast. It just like just yesterday when I got my first job. Job that is really appropriate with my background and liking. Of course, sometime there are some uncomfortable, preasure, boring that attack while I work. More than that, some of those feeling that made me decide to resign from company. Yeah I need break, and new fresh air, probably at new place.

At the other moment, sometime I contemplate. Is IT really place for me to get money? Actually I am electronic engineer. Partially, because I am supposed to be teachir at SMK. I am bachelor of education. There always a time that I imagine myself to work at telco company as telecommunication engineer. But I have to realize, I was lazy at college. I don't have enough knowledge to be such engineer. So after graduation day, eventhough not too out of the way, I choose IT as my job. I am java developer now, specificaly. Generaly I can say myself as software engineer. I have to admit, maybe java would not life forever. But IT is always demanded everywhere. I code everyday. Read a lot of IT books. Download many new software SDK. Although there are always time I asked myself, Is IT really your own choose? Absolutely I answer, yes. There are always great posibility for every humankind to get success for every field he take. Maybe there successful telco engineer. Great lawyer. Honest policeman, lucky businessman. I have same chance too to be as success as them. Of course the price is to do the best as I can in every single step of work I do. Success is not as narrow of money or wealth. But I believe, I can get them if I want. I just want to stop compalaining everyday and start work and learn unstopable. Thanx Allah, for everything I got.

Oracle sqlplus typing history and typing completion on Linux

Something that annoy me so much when using oracle sqlplus in Linux is unavailability of typing completion and history. When we make some typing mistake, we must retype whole command. We cannot use up or down arrow to call typing history. We also cannot use tab for some completion help. Yeah I know most of people don't type directly on sqlplus. They write the script use some text editor, vi, emacs or notepad. Later they just use sqlplus to call the script. But if there are some people that has made life easier by provide that lack feature we don't have reason to refuse.

Introducing gqlplus a utility which provide typing completion and history to sqlplus. You can download from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gqlplus/. Extract the file then do configure and make. The library that I have to provide is ncurses as prerequirement. I just call sudo apt-get install libncurses5. Later I copy the gqlplus folder to my oracle user home directory. I edit .bash_profile file in oracle user home directory and add gqlplus directory to PATH environment variable. After all I just call gqlplus from terminal and I have sqlplus with history and completion support now.

Facebook Client Messenger on Ubuntu

Since several last weeks, I wonder if there is some facebook messenger for my Ubuntu laptop. Sometime it is feel annoying if I must open browser just to chat with online facebook friend.

First reason why I search such tool is, facebook homepage is little bit heavy. It will waste many bandwidth to open the site, moreover if use limited mobile internet quota that is little bit expensive. Second reason, sometime I don't realize, if some of my friend try chat to me via facebook messenger. For example I focus to other firefox tab. I know too that there will be a kind of sound notifaction if some chat is received. But by using client messenger, the window will pop up. So we will immediate realize, when someone intend to chat with us.

For Windows there are some messenger client that provide facebook protocol. That is not the case with my ubuntu. But I just found pidgin plugin that will provide facebook protocol to Pidgin Internet Messenger. The pludgin can be downloaded here http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-facebookchat/downloads/list. Just double click the .deb file, and we are on the go. Open Accounts --> Manage Accounts and press add button. Next step, I believe is easy to follow. Just try it out.

Pertamina 2009 Recruitment

About last week, I participated in Pertamina 2009 recruitment. Likely, since this year, Pertamina start to leverage IT in their recruitment program. In order to screnning participant, after submission application via website, we have to fill online test. The test consists of verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning test. From the online test result, later, participant who pass, will attend physical test at some venue.

My online test do not passed. From about 15 test at those 3 categories, I have big difficulty answering them. No wonder if finally I can not passed. From there I realize that I really need to learn more. How come if I can only answer 3 question from 15 in numerical test. The other categories is not better.

Reunion

Last Friday 10th April I met with old friend. It had been almost 3 years we don't meet. Very happy to see again. She did not change much. Still cute, smart and funny. Difference is she use jilbab now. She looks very elegant. We watched movie that night in Plaza Semanggi. Fast and furious. The movie is good. I treat her. After movie I was invited to meet her familly. Her familly is great. Her mom and sisters. Very harmonic and also fun. We hung out for while at Sky Dinning at same Plaza.

We should learn something from every occassion. From that reunion I learn that I should to be more flexible. Not to rigid. I must admit typically I am clumsy. Easy to nervous. That is me. Not proud but I must fix myself immediately. I want to be more expressive person. I don't want limitted by fear of rejection, fear of looks ugly and some kind of those.

For my friend, if you read this, I am very happy to meet you again.

Yahoo Mobile Developer Award 2009 Kick of Briefing

Last Saturday (4th April 2009), I attended Yahoo Mobile Developer Award 2009 (YMDA 2009) Kick of Briefing at X2 Club Plaza Senayan Jakarta Selatan. The most important agenda for that day is announcement of who will be sponsor company for the event. The sponsor are 5 big company in Indonesia like, Yamaha Motor, XL, BNI, Viva News and Code Jawa. Different with previously informed, there are 5 sponsors and not 6 sponsors. However there still a lot of challenge to built application that conform with sponsor requirement. Those 5 sponsor is randomly assigned adequately to total of about 70 participants. So, about 12 to 13 teams will built application to each sponsor. Actually if we see from quantity, the competion is likely easy. Moreover if we can provide good application. The path to winning is really clear for such readyness.

Individually, I got Code Jawa as sponsor. Code Jawa itself claim, it is largest content provider company in Indonesia. Their claim seems right if we see slot of advertisement of their product in television. Not many of us know Code Jawa. But I believe most of us know Mama Lauren, Chat n Date, SMS celebrities, which are products from Code Jawa. Even though Code Jawa is not as bonafide as Yamaha, BNI or XL, or even Viva, Code Jawa provide very flexible requirements for the application needed to build. I just hope can manage 3 weeks time provided to finish application with well. Someway too, I really hope can increase possibility to grab total of 20,000 USD from to event.

Yahoo Mobile Developer Award 2009

Yesterday, I attended Yahoo Developer Network Kopi Darat (gathering) at Ritz-Carlton Jakarta. That gathering is aim to introduce Yahoo Developer Network in Indonesia also to launch Yahoo Mobile Developer Award 2009 (YMDA 2009).

YMDA 2009 use new mobile platform from Yahoo called Blueprint. Blueprint can be used to build new kind mobile application. Blueprint itself is use XML as its language. No scripting, just maskup. Probably, if need a kind of logic, we could use several language that is supported by blueprint such as php, java, coldfussion, etc. By launching this platform, Yahoo have some concern about new trend of internet use in future, Mobile internet.

The prize of contest is really interesting. 10,000 USD. Like usual, I must submit application. Whatever if later I will pass or reject, I don't care. Participation and trial is main thing. From there we can learn many things.

Facebook: Why It Gains Momentum

Social networking site becomes trend after dot coming booming ruins many dot com company around year 2000. The new term Web 2.0 appear as a new way to use internet as interaction point. Web 2.0 bear some familiar stuff to us currently like social networking site and weblog. Those two stuffs offer common thing. Interaction between user from everywhere is linked by internet. We can communicate and find friends in social networking site. We can publish something, either writting, picture, video on weblog. From there, internet is never same as before. This post will try to discuss about social networking site and its impact to our daily life.

First social networking site that I know is friendster. I became member at 2005. At that time, I really astonished about interaction possibility that is offered by friendster. The possibility to find friends, whether we have knows, or not recognize at all. See friend profile, browse their foto album and give testimonial to our friend profile. For several years friendster become most visited site, at least in Indonesia. A lot people being connected and find new friend use friendster.

Not long after, several new term in internet technology is appearing. Most famous in web developer point of view is Ajax, something that is often related to Web 2.0. In easy way, Ajax can be interpreted as a techonology that make user and website interaction more natural. User can click something on site and immediately got response without have to wait whole page rendered like Web 1.0 has done. Many Ajax application then was born use Ajax technology. We know Gmail, Google Earth, Plurk and Facebook.

Currently, after friendster booming, it seems Facebook try to replace friendster position as the most favourite social networking site. Several power feature offered by facebook are rich applications and more dynamic interaction. At 2007 Facebook has launched Facebook developer platform and then open posibility to many developer to develop custom application which can be used by facebook user. This offer make Facebook really rich of application from simple pet game, racing game, etc. Dynamic interaction is presented by facebook use a lot of comment can be put by user to another user. Comment to photo, video, etc. We also can put something on other user wall. Wall is something that belong to user where another user can put many things on it. The most favourite for many user is status update. We can put whatever activity we do, whatever thing in our mind on status update. Interestingely, many other user will have same interest and put some comment.

Beside those 2 reasons, the other factor which make facebook more gain momentum is mobile web that becomme more common today. Recently we can browse website from everywhere. We can post blog content, send email and even chatting use whatever chatting protocol. Updating or see other user update on social networking site seems to be an interesting activity for us. When we on train, we can check other friend status, respon on it. We can browse their photo and maybe make online chat use facebook messenger. So, for other social networking site, it is your time to make new innovation, otherwise, facebook flood will ruins all of you.

Celebrating Anual Graduation

Yesterday, 15 March has been one year since my graduation day for may bachelor degree. Yeah, there is it, time usually flow so fast. Thing that happen a long time ago feels like just yesterday. Preacher at Friday Pray time usually said, that is prove which mean we are like to live on earth. But many of us know, we are not live on earth forever. There will be a time when we should return to place we belong.

Okay, back to topic. The big question is, What are my accomplishment in this first year since my graduation day? Not too may, if not at all. Be a person that is considered as intellect is a responsibility. Probably some person don't care about that. People such that, just care how to get their certificate and good point in their lecture event though is got by cheating. I am not. Don't mean to be arrogant, but that is me.

My main target that I would like to accomplish is be someone that can give something useful to people surround me. Since long time ago I really want to be educator such as teacher lecturer. Explaining something difficult with easy way. Leveraging process of gaining new knowledge, research, write an article about science, publish book, give a speech in some forum, of course continue blogging too, et cetera. Those are the things that I really want to do. Currently, I still need time to approach those stuffs. But I believe, if I would like pay price, I will arrive there sometime. Willing make us want start to walk. Action turn that willing to be some real thing.

Life is too precious to be nothing. Be something is always desired by people. I will do, and I will prove that. Happy Celebrating for being University Graduate, for me!

Prison Break: A shallow review

Disclaimer! Don't read this post if you haven't finished watch the series. You will break a pleasure to enjoy surprises along episodes. Otherwise, if have finished see the serial, let's continue and share the experiences. For whom that need more formal article, wikipedia have a lot of Prison Break related writing.



I've watched Prison Break serial first time at one of Local TV in Indonesia around 2007. Formerly, I guess Prison Break is not series. Prison Break is to sophisticated being a tv series. But, I'm mistake. Prison Break is not cinema movie, it is tv series with Four season collection episodes(at least currently).

As its title stated, Prison Break story is about an trial to escape from prison. The story is about two brothers that try to break out from prison. But when series goes, there are more complicated stories that happen.

The main cast of series is Michael Scofield (Wenworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrow (Dominic Purcell). In first season, Lincoln Burrow has been wrongfully accused and sentenced for a crime he didn't committed, killing US vice president brother. For saving his brother, Michael Scofield make a plan to break Burrow from Fox River prison where Burrow is held. To achieve his plan, Scofield commit robbery to be captured to prison. From inside, Scofield then build escaping plan to avoid Burrom dead sentences. The main plan for escape, is tattoed in Scofield body. The tatto consists blueprint detail of the prison.

Another cast appear in this first season including, Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) doctor at prison that later will became Scofield love. Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell (Robert Knepper) as a psychopat, killer, rapper, but very smart and little bit funny for me. Amaury Nolasco as Fernando Sucre appear in all of for season. Sucre is Scofield cell mate that later will help much. Peter Stormare as John Abruzzi mafia boss that provide several facility to help escape. Rockmond Dunbar as Benjamin Miles "C-Note" Franklin ex soldier who wrongfully accused to prison. Wade Williams as Brad Bellick an unsymphatic prison officer. But this opionion change when story goes, Brad is really good person. Paul Adelstein as Paul Kellerman is right hand of vice president that will kill anybody who try to stop him. But at end, Kellerman is who save and clean and release Burrow and Scofield sentence. Even thouh for that Kellermen is killed.

When first season story is about the escape trial, season 2 show escape all of runner outside of prison. One by one the runner is captured while other can keep run. Abruzzi and David "Tweener" Apolskis (Lane Garrison) is finally have to dead. In this season another main cast appear William Fichtner as Alexander Mahone a FBI agent who assign to cath all fox river eight. The interest thing of Mahone, he has almost match intelectual level as Scofield. Although in 2 season Mahone is antagonist. He will became ally in next season. Second season is ended when unfortunatelly Scofield is captured to Sona prison in Panama, together with Mahone, T Bag and Bellick.

Third season now is story of Scofield trial to escape from Sona Prison in Panama. Different with other prison, Sona is keeped from outside. Inside prisonRobert Wisdom as Norman "Lechero" St. John rule prison as dictator. The main story of this season is Scofield trial to break James Whistler (Chris Vance) from Sona. New cast which appear are Jodi Lyn O'Keefe as Gretchen Morgan and Danay Garcia as Sofia Lugo, Whistler girlfriend. Grethend is bad thing that you will ever imagine. Sofia is really pretty for latin girl. Unfortunatelly she just play in this third season. The saddest thing from third season story is Tancredi died. Although later there will be much surprised. In third season something powerfull organization is mention frequently. In next season, it will be a main story.

Fourth season. Scofield succes running from Sona. But unfotunately, Bellick is stayed and Sucre being captured. Although later, all of them can escape too. New cast in this season is Michael Rapaport as Donald Self a FBI agent that want to bring down company. Company can be brought down by finding a thing called Scylla. Self arranged team that is lead by Scofield and Burrow to find Scylla. Roland (James Hiroyuki Liao) a hacker that have device to stole Scyla data is joined to team. Later, a betrayel trial make Roland should die. Wyatt (Cress Williams) right hand of General Krantz is ugliest thing along the season, even though not take long time he will be killed by Mahone, in revenge of his son dead. The main surprises of this season is Tancredi re-live. Tancredi is not dead. He is escaped from Gretchen while in Panama. Along this season the team arranged by Self to stole Scylla. T Bag is still appear as annoying person that have great revenga to Scofield.

As far as now, Prison Break is the best tv series I have ever watched. The story is amazing, the acting is really good, the action make your heart beat. It is really logical if we see the budget. The crew spent 2 to 3 Million dollars as budget per episodes. Prison Break is not family series. It is inaproprite to watch together with your 12 years boy. Prison Break is for adult. A lot of violance, sadist, stab, kill and blood in this series. But the point that make really like this series is, we can see humanis side of a even a murder. We can see it in Kellerman and Mahone. We also can swith streotype, for the person that firstly look bad. Brad Bellick is in this case. We also can see the genius and funny side of the most bad prisoner. We see it in T-Bag.

Currently Season 4 contains 16 episodes. Next episodes will be released around April 2009. We still know the ending, but most of fans will agree, Prison Break is great.

IPhone 3G is coming to Indonesia

In the middle of Blackberry storm, finally IPhone 3G will be marketed in Indonesia. If you are Telkomsel customer, good for you, you have chance to try this sophisticated gadget officially. Yeah, I said officially because even before this Telkomsel launch it plan, some of our friend who like surf around black market corner have enjoyed unlocked version of the gadget. But, like me, less person who like unofficial stuff. It is usually expensive and no after sales service.

Telkomsel has not neither released the exact date about the launching nor price. In Telkomsel website, there is only an order form for the device. Just jot down out identity, id number and tada, probably at launch date your IPhone 3G will be sent to your home for free. Ha ha, of course not just joke.

Personally as other gadget freaks, I have some level of interest to this phone. But everything depend to the price that will be labeled. I will consider to buy if label not more than 3 million. What the heck? How came this sophisticated gadget will priced as low as that? You probably wonder and little bit surprised. But that's true. IPhone usually make a kind of arrangement with provider to sell the device as cheap as possible but buyer should follow a kind of subscription scheme. Probably a year to 3 years subscription with several rule that is stated. Currently I don't know about the scheme that will be provided by Telkomsel.

So, will I order the gadget. Maybe. The certain thing is, since 2 month ago, I have enjoyed my IPhone clone phone, Nokia 5800XM. For the price that I paid, I thing Nokia 5800XM is worth enough.

Next To Do Path

Below are the next todos that I have to accomplish to not more than 5 years forward.

First, finish my duties in my current company. Since February until around April I am assigned an big responsibility in one of project. I should accomplish the duty well. Not easy but from here, I will learn how to fulfill something that we begin.

Second, search a new opportunity in job. It could be take other position in same company or maybe apply to other place to find a new challenge and of course, new salary and income.

Third, try to see opportunity of being freelancer. Work as permanent employee maybe is chose by many of us. But until some of level consideration, I thing work at the way such those, is selling time. Time is much precious than anything.

Fourth, by considering to be freelancer, I will spare my time to take a kind of language course. English and Japanese.

Fifth, preparing my research topic for my post graduate study.

Sixth, apply schoolarship and go to continue my study to Japan.

Seventh, finishing my study, apply as a lecturer or apply strategic position in multi-national company (eg, Chevron) or work abroad instead at Japan, Australia, Singapore or US.

Somewhere between First to seventh, buy comfort home, good car, and marriage to the prettiest girl in the world.

Asta La Vista

Today, one of my college friend, Nj is taking off to Merlbourne. She is going to take a kind of preparation study course. After that, she will continue her post graduate study, probably in Malaysia. Believe or not, until this time, going abroad is still a luxury for me. I am being proud for her flight. Flight across the country border is one of my oldschool wish list. The wish that from time to time is forced to bring to reality.

Several of my closest friends have been know about my deepest passion. Study abroad. Nj flight to night maybe could be a propulsion for me to prepare my passion more seriosly. Everybody may know, there always be a price have to paid for whatever our willing. But not everybody care. So that's why not much person that can fulfill all of their will . Although I always believe, the only obstacle between we and what we went is ourself.
